Our objective

Mission Statement

Wilderness Passage is a rite of passage ministry that seeks to challenge and equip Christian boys to become Men of God through a challenging, week long, wilderness expedition that will test the boys mentally, physically, and spiritually by creating opportunities (trials) to apply God’s word and to learn to trust Him as they rely on the Holy Spirit. During the wilderness phase, our objective is to encourage the boys to respond to every trial with the Word of God so that they will learn to live by faith and to become Men, Men of God.

Crossing - Course #1 2012

week-long wilderness immersion

What Do We Do? How Do We Do It?

God is the only one who can create a Man of God. However, we strive to work alongside Him as we carry out our ministry to equip these young saints for ministry and for life. We have created a week-long wilderness immersion experience that is carefully designed to take them past their perceived limits, and that provides them literally hundreds of opportunities to rely on the “supply of the Spirit” (Phil 1:19) as they trust His promises, do His Word and walk by faith. We combine the physical challenge of a military training mission (without the weapons, heavy packs, or all the yelling) with the spiritual challenge of being tested in the wilderness, while using the word of God and reliance on the Holy Spirit to help him complete this portion of his passage to manhood.

Be strong Bible verse

man of God

Who We Are

I got my first job at age 11, working 8 hours a day. I served in the infantry in the United States Marine Corps. I lived a tipi in the woods of northern Idaho for three years. But it was not until I was 44 years old that I actually felt like a man.

It was not until I had to take a stand for God’s word that I knew that I had become a man, a man of God.

Our culture tells you that it is easy to be a man: Fight after school, get drunk on Friday night, sleep with your girlfriend, get jumped into a gang, turn 18, or join the military.

But God’s word is clear and King David brings it into focus. Listen to what he says to his son, the future King, Solomon:

“Be strong, therefore, and show yourself [to be] a man. [Here's how] Keep the charge of the LORD your God, to walk in His ways, to keep His statutes, His commandments, His ordinances, and His testimonies, according to what is written in the Law of Moses, that you may succeed in all that you do and wherever you turn…”
(I Kings 2:2-3)

That is what is in the heart of a man of God – to return love to God by trusting in and obeying God’s Word. Love desires that all of our thoughts and actions be obedient to God’s word by grace.

God says that there is a certain type of man that gets His attention, “the one who is humble, has a contrite spirit and who trembles at my word (Isa 66:2).”

A man of God is a man of God’s Word. Only God can make a man of God. By God’s grace we are men of God who are passionate about equipping Christian boys with the knowledge, experience and courage that are at the heart of a man of God.

Christ is the salvation of God.

What We Believe

The Bible: The Bible is the very word of God and is inspired by God through the Holy Spirit. It is without error, absolutely pure and trustworthy. It is the Wisdom of God’s people, it saves and sanctifies, convicts and heals, and is to be trusted and obeyed (2 Thess 2:13; 2 Timothy 3:16,17; Jas 1:22; Ps 19:8)

The Only True God: God is triune: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. God the Father is sovereign over all creation, and is revealed perfectly by the Son. The Son is both fully God and fully Man and is one with the Father. The Holy Spirit is a Person and is the one who is God With Us in Jesus' absence (Gen 1:26; Mk 1:10-11; Eph 1:3-14).

The Spiritual Condition of Man: Man was created in the image of God for the purpose of being in intimate fellowship with Him. But because of sin, man is now spiritually dead to God (Romans 3:23, Romans 5:12, Eph 2:1-3).

Salvation: Christ is the Salvation of God. He came to die in the place of sinners. He took sin’s punishment on Himself, so that whoever believed in Him would have eternal life and be brought back into relationship with God through the forgiveness of sin. Salvation is not in any way by works or the effort of man but only by the free gift and grace of God (Lk 2:30-32; 1Pet 2:24; Jn 17:2: Eph 2:8-9).
